First of all, hats off to Valmont for posting the photos of Bruce Black. The one yesterday in Billings was taken at the same location I had used to capture some early BN action. Here's the rear of an eastbound freght getting orders, taken 23 June 1973.
Thanks for looking,
Ron

Awesome shot! Dig the freight cars as much as the caboose. I thought the Northern Pacific wide-vision cabooses were so cool, I had a model of one when I was a kid:}

Went back to my post from yesterday, and sure enough something I'd missed ... the round cover that was over the hole where the pole for the orders sits in your photo. Small detail but with the pole in it as, in your shot, it is a piece of RR history.

The stone building visible over the top of the caboose is the Parmly Library. The upper story housed the adult section and the lower section housed childrens' books. It was a great day when I was able to finally check out books from the grown up section of the library.
A great place to train watch! Double track hosting NP and CB&Q freight and passenger. Only a couple blocks west from the depot.
